Do you find yourself gazing at the sky, curious about the forces of nature? Meteorologists’ curiosity drives them to understand Earth’s atmospheric phenomena and how it affects Earth and the life on our planet. The phenomena include everything from global warming to, in Christopher Landsea’s case, hurricanes. As a hurricane researcher with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) Hurricane Research Division, Landsea has flown into more than a dozen hurricanes. While some may call this work dangerous, he says it’s “fun.”
