Using a Classroom Response System for Real-Time Data Display and Analysis in Introductory Biology Labs

Journal of College Science Teaching—November/December 2010

Clickers were used for real-time data collection in two introductory biology laboratory courses so that students could perform statistical analysis on large data sets. Student attitudes toward this use of clickers were surveyed and students were administered a pre- and posttest on statistical content. Capture of large data sets allowed instructors to align statistical analysis content with the laboratory exercises, and students reported that use of clickers for data collection helped them to perform data analysis, understand the role of statistics, and understand the need for larger data sets.
