Alliance of Affiliates

NSTA works with other science teaching and educational groups around the country to further the goals of science education. (See also NSTA State Chapters and Associated Groups.)

Association for Multicultural Science Education (AMSE)

The Association for Multicultural Science Education is organized to stimulate and promote science teaching to students of culturally diverse backgrounds and to motivate such students to consider science-related careers; to explore and promote the improvement of science curriculum, educational systems and teaching methods in school to assist such stimulations; to recruit and involve teachers of all minorities in science education and to initiate and engage in activities and programs in furtherance of improving the science education of culturally diverse students.

Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE)

The mission of the Association for Science Teacher Education is to promote leadership in, and support for those involved in, the professional development of teachers of science. ASTE serves educators involved in the professional development of teachers of science, including science teacher educators, staff developers, college-level science instructors, education policy makers, instructional material developers, science supervisors/specialists/coordinators, lead/mentor teachers, and all others interested in promoting the development of teachers of science.

Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC)

The Association of Science and Technology Centers is a global nonprofit organization of science centers and museums committed to raising public understanding of science's role in solving critical societal issues, and its value in igniting and nurturing the innovative spirit that people of all ages need for success in today's world. Through strategic alliances and global partnerships, ASTC strives to increase awareness of the valuable contributions its science center members make to their communities and the field of informal science learning. Founded in 1973, ASTC has over 600 members in 45 countries, and its members include not only science centers and museums, but also nature centers, aquariums, planetariums, zoos, botanical gardens, and natural history and children's museums, as well as companies, consultants, and other organizations that share an interest in informal science education.

Council of State Science Supervisors (CSSS)

The Council of State Science Supervisors is a professional organization composed of science education specialists who serve at the state, territorial, or the protectorate educational agency in the United States and US Territories. CSSS is the only professional science organization whose members have direct accountability to the government agencies given the constitutional authority for education. Within their own jurisdictions, each of these supervisors plays a key role in directing effort at improving school science and to ensure excellence and equity in science education.

NARST: A Worldwide Organization for Improving Science Teaching and Learning Through Research

The purpose of NARST is to promote research in science education at all levels and to disseminate research findings in such ways as to improve science teaching. Since its inception in 1928, NARST has promoted research in science education and the communication of knowledge generated by the research. The ultimate goal of NARST is to help all learners achieve science literacy. The 1,400-plus members of NARST represent a wide variety of interests, perspectives, nationalities, and cultures. Members come from throughout the world including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America.

National Middle Level Science Teachers Association (NMLSTA)

The National Middle Level Science Teachers Association is a professional learning network for middle and junior high school science teachers who meet the unique developmental needs of students in grades 5–9. The NMLSTA works to improve science teaching, promote the continuity of science education from preschool through high school, recruit and retain qualified middle level science teachers, develop and improve pre-service education for middle level science, and improve the public identity and status of the middle level science educator.

National Science Education Leadership Association (NSELA)

The National Science Education Leadership Association promotes the development of effective leadership practices as a means to improve science education. NSELA facilitates communication among and provides opportunities for science leaders to discuss and take action on matters of common interest and concern as well as publish research on new trends, methods, and pedagogy. Through professional development and support for the development of high quality curriculum materials, NSELA advances high quality instruction in science educational settings.

Society for College Science Teachers (SCST)

The purpose of the Society for College Science Teachers is to provide a forum for interdisciplinary interaction among teachers of science at all institutions of higher education. The Society for College Science Teachers is the only interdisciplinary affiliate of NSTA that is dedicated solely to the study and advancement of college science teaching. We are a dedicated community of college and university teaching scholars working to enhance science education through development and testing of best classroom teaching practices. Currently there are approximately 800 members from all of the states and several foreign countries.
