Bookstore FAQs
Members
I'm an NSTA member—do I get a discount?
Absolutely—20% off NSTA Press books and co-publications (items with stock numbers beginning with PB or PA), 10% on other titles, and 20% on NSTA Gear items.
Not a member? Visit www.nsta.org/membership to learn more.
Do institutional members also get the same discounts?
Yes, but you need to order by phone—call 1-800-277-5300 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET.
Payments & Discounts
I will be sending in a purchase order. What information do I need to include to ensure that I receive the fastest service?
Any purchase order submitted to NSTA should include the purchase order number, a bill-to and ship-to address, the signature of the authorizing official (or individual customer), and a list of the products and prices that are to be included in the order. Also, if you are using a member discount, be sure to include the full member name, the NSTA member number, and an e-mail address. Including just these basic facts should greatly speed your order.
Do you offer bulk discounts?
Nonmembers get a bulk discount on NSTA Press books according to the table below based on the Nonmember Price. You must purchase multiple copies of the same title or the same sets to get the bulk discounts listed. (NSTA Member Prices already reflect a 20% discount off the Non-Member Rate, regardless of the number of copies purchased.)

What forms of payment do you accept?
Credit card (AmEx, Discover, MC, Visa) or check—or send us a purchase order, and we'll bill your school or district.
Like most schools, mine is a nonprofit and does not usually pay sales tax. How do I avoid being charged sales tax?
NSTA is required to charge sales tax only for orders placed from Georgia, Virginia, Texas, and Arizona. If you are placing an order from either of those two states, please submit evidence of your school's tax-exempt status along with your order.
Questions about what information you need to supply? Call us at 1-800-277-5300 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET for advice on the necessary documentation.

How do I return an item?
You may return any publication in saleable condition within 30 days of receipt.
NSTA will refund the purchase price in full for items over $10. Orders under $10 will receive account credit. To return an item, indicate the reason for the return, include the packing slip or invoice, and wrap the package securely.
You are responsible for paying the shipping and handling on the invoice and for shipping the package back to NSTA; we refund or credit the purchase price only. Certain sale items are nonreturnable. Returns made later than 30 days from your date of receipt will yield neither refunds nor credits.

Shipping
What are my shipping options?
Regular delivery orders are sent via UPS (Note: UPS cannot deliver to a P.O. box) and generally take 10-14 days. For regular orders to any of the 50 states, your cost is 15% of the total. Outside the 50 states, we ship to Canada, and these orders are billed at 50% of the total, with a minimum order of $50.

Sellers
I would like to sell NSTA books at my own store or through other channels. What kinds of discounts do you offer to resellers?
In North America, NSTA Kids titles are represented by IPG in the retail and wholesale markets. If you would like to purchase NSTA Kids books for resale, please contact:

e-licenses
My school or district licenses e-books from other publishers—do you offer e-licenses?
Yes, NSTA now licenses its e-book titles so that you and your colleagues can share content within your school or even across an entire district. Depending on the size of your group, annual license fees can be as little as 10–30% of the cost of buying multiple copies of the print books outright. Licensing is currently available for several popular series, including the following:
- Everyday Science Mysteries
- Picture-Perfect Science Lessons
- Stop Faking It!
- Uncovering Student Ideas in Science
Other bestsellers are available upon request.
For more information, please contact Emily Brady at sitelicenses@nsta.org or 703-312-9395.
Teaching a Course
I teach a course and am considering an NSTA Press book as a student text. Do you offer exam or desk copies for prior review?
Absolutely. We would be pleased to send you any NSTA Press title as a free e-version for your review. Please be aware, though—the link to the book is functional for only 30 days.
To submit a request, please e-mail us at pubsales@nsta.org—including each of the following items:
- Book title
- ISBN or Stock #
- Course name
- Projected enrollment
- Start date
- Your name and title
- Your institutional e-mail address
- Office or home telephone number, whichever is more convenient for you
After review, please let us know whether you ultimately select one or more of our titles for your course. When ordering, be sure to keep in mind the bulk discounts that may apply. (See above.)
Store Items
What happens if an item is out of stock?
You will not be charged for the item until we can fulfill that part of your order. The rest of your order will be shipped immediately, and you will receive the remaining item(s) as promptly as possible. If in doubt, e-mail us at orders@nsta.org or call 1-800-277-5300 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET.
As a fallback (if you're especially pressed for time and need a particular resource stat—or if the book is out of print), consider an e-book version. Cheaper, and in your possession all but instantaneously.
What if I can't find a catalog item in the online Science Store?
We're constantly refreshing our product list—some older items go out of print; others are replaced by newer editions. But feel free to e-mail us at pubsales@nsta.org to find out for sure.
