Analysis Problems—A Means to Developing Students’ Critical-Thinking Skills: Pushing the Boundaries of Higher-Order Thinking

Journal of College Science Teaching—March/April 2000

To teach critical-thinking skills in introductory biology, the authors selected an immersion system using analysis problems that incorporates critical thinking into a specific discipline rather than presenting it as an isolated topic. Analysis problems, which resemble a multiple-choice format, avoid recall-level questions and, rather, require students to use analysis and synthesis types of reasoning.
