Society for College Science Teachers: Trimorphic College Science Professors

Journal of College Science Teaching—May/June 2008

In the author’s opinion, there are three significantly different types of science professors. There are professor-instructors, professor-teachers, and professor-researchers. Although the professional practices in each category are very different, it is not always easy to place a college science educator neatly into one of the columns. Some of our colleagues employ with their students strategies identified in other categories, but every professor fits best in one grouping. The characteristics of trimorphic college professors are described in this month’s column.
