For the Mayan culture specifically, the dependable motions of the Sun, Moon, and stars and their connection to accurate calendars provided motivation to study the cosmos. Through this inquiry-based, interdisciplinary project, students are exposed to the astronomical practices of the ancients by engaging in an actual hands-on, outdoor star-watch.
