Lights, Camera, and the Action of Science

In this day and age, students spend much of their time glued to their television sets. This is understandable as many of today’s programs are action packed and narrative in nature, and thus attractive to students. When not at home, money is spent at movie theaters where these fantasy stories are even more action packed and larger-than-life. As a result, teachers can capitalize on student interest to enhance science education. In this article, the author describes how she uses video clips in conjunction with inquiry-based activities and instruction to illustrate and intensify learning.
