Bringing Back the Analemma

Although the analemma derives from days when advances in technology meant building a more accurate sundial, the hands-on process of incrementally constructing a model of the analemma is still a worthwhile educational experience. It teaches science, patience, and the importance of careful observational measurement; and it provides students with a physical model from which to investigate the motion of the Earth, the measurement of time, and the history of technology. This article describes how to add this unique teaching opportunity to your curriculum.
