Incorporating the issue of non-native species into science curricula is an effective way to protect our deteriorating environment while teaching students fundamental principles of ecology. In addition, the ubiquitous nature of the problem allows students to involve themselves in local conservation efforts during and after their school years. Whether done directly (omitting of exotic plants from gardens) or indirectly (educating their peers about non-native species), their efforts can only be beneficial. This article provides lesson ideas and internet resources to help students defend ecology.
