Technology permeates today’s society, but history also contains rich examples of technology as “a way of adapting.” The Egyptians’ approach to building pyramids, the construction of the Great Wall of China; world-wide canal systems; the design of catapults; and medieval fortresses for ancient warfare are examples of what we can learn from the past. The Acadian culture was the subject of a unique project in which science and technology as a social-historical study can serve as a centerpiece, drawing together all subject areas into an interdisciplinary unit.
