After the Bell: Mapping for geographic awareness -- Part I

Maps and mapping are of great importance in the field of education because mapping concepts are linked to the development of students’ thinking and cognitive structures. In addition, mapping concepts are based on students’ experiences and learning. Further, psychologists have suggested that strong content knowledge of mapping helps students learn concepts in geography. The activities described in this article will help students learn spatial terms and identify places and regions using maps and the process of inquiry as their guide.
