The Ants Have It!

Science and Children—February 2001

This memorable activity creatively applied students’ knowledge of ants—and it all started with a wonderful Lawrence Hall GEMS guide and a teacher with a sweet tooth. The students learned that the success of the colony depends on each ant doing its job. The old adage “All for one, and one for all” took on new meaning. In addition, students emulated real scientists as they made observations, created models of anatomically correct ants, and collected data.
