A Community Controls Loosestrife: It takes a village to keep nonnative plant populatins in check

The Science Teacher—May 2001

Purple loosestrife is a gorgeous, flowering, invasive, European plant. Environmental science students from Walled Lake Central High School in Michigan entered into an exciting partnership with the citizens of the village of Wolverine Lake, Michigan, and Michigan State University Sea Grant Purple Loosestrife Project. Through this project, concerned citizens from a loosestrife-infested region work with a cooperating teacher and students to provide long-term support for biological control of purple loosestrife in the area.
