Awaken and sharpen your students' powers of observation by using art, particulary drawing, in your science classroom. There is a commonality between methods that artists employ in portraying their subjects and the methods that those studying nature employ in learning about the world, and this similarity can provide encouragement in leading science students to study nature via art. One way to achieve this objective is to have students create a Naturalist's Journal, as described in this article, where drawing is an essential part of a process to gather information from the natural world and to synthesize the field and lab experiences from class.
