This issue of The Science Teacher is our attempt to give you some tools to move the understanding of science to the majority, to help provide a more secure future for the scientific habit mind. In our classes, we must help students understand the scientific enterprise. Current public discussions on topics such as global warming, stem cell research, and weapons of mass destruction all demand scientific rigor. More than ever, we need to achieve a solid understanding of the scientific enterprise and make this understanding an explicit part of our science teaching.
