From Copernicus to Galileo, from Schleiden and Schwann to Watson and Crick, our understanding of the world around us has changed with developing technologies. Information technology, or the input, sharing, and publication of data and graphics in delayed or real time, has multiple applications in the classroom. The field of IT, or information technology, continues to change the way we study our world and prepare our students for competition in this 21st-century global economy. This article describes the different implications IT has on the traditional science classroom in the 21st century.
