Hands-On Science, 680 Hands at a Time

Journal of College Science Teaching—February 2001

This article explains how students can do hands-on science in a large lecture theater with seats bolted to the floor. It specifically describes the logistics of doing a collapsing can activity in such a large class to demonstrate the birth of a black hole. Evaluations show that the students learned some science and also learned to like doing science.
