Idea Bank: Wilderness Search and Rescue

The Science Teacher -- March 2006

As a science teacher, you are probably bombarded with the questions, “Why do we need to know this information?” and “Who uses this information in their jobs?” from your high school students on a daily basis. To answer their questions, incorporate the fictional, simulated activity described in this article. Students discover the process of scientific inquiry as they work collaboratively to conduct a wilderness search and rescue of a lost child with Down’s Syndrome.
