Journeying "Down the Rabbit Hole"

Science and Children -- February 2004

As part of a science methods course, a group of preservice teachers was challenged to develop an understanding of science as inquiry. By selecting an object and conducting a series of seasonal observations of how that object changes over time, these teachers engaged in the kind of firsthand, active investigations of nature that allow ideas about the nature of science to emerge. Sample observations one student made of a pond are included.
