Looks Count for Communities

Science Scope -- January 2004

Small-town students embark on a trip to the past that connects them to current trends and issues faced by communities all over the United States—the potential for explosive growth-- helter-skelter, mismatched growth. This inquiry-based unit on community planning and the visual environment is an excellent way to engage small-town students in a real-world issue that is relevant to their lives, while at the same time addressing social studies, language arts, and science content standards.
