Through a partnership with a local business, a group of highly motivated high school students and their teacher created a not-for-profit business, Student Advocates for Environmental Water, to provide water-testing services for the local community. The tests covered all the major properties of drinking water: pH, hardness; and the levels of bacteria, chlorine, and copper. Students also learned why water quality testing is important for public health. In addition, they have taken what they have learned from this partnership and applied it to bettering their lives and the lives of people around them.
