JoinScience Is for the Birds: Promoting Standards-Based Learning Through Backyard Birdwatching
Backyard bird watching can be a means for promoting authentic research projects in middle level science. Cornell University's Project FeederWatch provides research protocols for measuring diversity, distribution, and abundance of feeder birds. Suggestions for surveys and investigations are provided, as are plans for building a nest box and a sidebar about West Nile virus.
