Tech Trek: Up-to-the-minute meteorology

Science Scope -- February 2004

Up-to-the-minute weather information that is easily available on the Internet can be a great tool for complementing a traditional study of meteorology.Of course, students should still be taught how to gather their own data using hands-on instruments such as thermometers, barometers, weather vanes, wind gauges, and rain gauges. Once they have mastered traditional data collection techniques, however, introduce them to the wealth of data, lesson plans, and simulations offered online and on television. This article outlines a number of weather-related resources that can be integrated into your science curriculum.
