The Truth Behind the Tabloids

Science Scope—March 2002

In this age of tabloid news and easy Internet access, students must be savvy information consumers. They need to be aware that not all the reports they see may be accurate or factual. It is, therefore, essential that students learn ways of analyzing and assessing information presented by the media. These skills can be developed through an interdisciplinary English and science unit. In this unit, the English teacher covers analysis of materials read, research skills, and precise communication, while the science teacher covers scientific research, scientific theory, and observation.
