Take It Outside!

Science and Children - April 2002

Hands on the Land, a new initiative to promote the use of public lands for environment-based education, consists of a national network of field classrooms designed to link students, teachers, and parents to national public lands. Each education site represents a cooperative venture among government agencies, nonprofit groups, and local schools. The author describes three such programs in Alaska, Oregon, and California.
