“Creative” does not adequately describe the 2,800 entries in the 2000 Craftsman/NSTA Young Inventors Awards Program. Second- through eighth-grade student inventions were reviewed by panels (regional and national) of distinguished science educators and industry personnel. Thirty-six regional winners were selected, and from this group, a grand awardee in the second- to fifth-grade division and a grand awardee in the sixth- to eighth-grade division were selected. In this article, the winners from the program describe the innovative tools they invented to help others and to make work easier.
