Scope on the Skies: And now there are five

Science Scope -- March 2004

This month opens with four of the five brightest planets (Venus, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter) very visible as they line up across the evening skies after sunset, stretching from the western horizon to the southeastern horizon. The month closes with the addition of the fifth bright planet, Mercury, joining others in the dynamic evening skies. This month's Scope on the Skies column features this cosmic event, and also includes additional celestial activity to observe and enjoy throughout the month.
