Clean Stream Program

Science Scope—September 1999

Fresh water is one of our most important resources, yet 97 percent of Earth’s water is salt water and an additional 2 percent is frozen in glaciers and ice caps. That means that only 1 percent of the world’s water supply is available for drinking, cooking, and other life-sustaining activities. The need to know more about this precious resource led us to the development of the Clean Stream Program, which is described in this article.
