The use of Geographic Information System (GIS) is emerging as an educational technology for developing contextually rich student learning. GIS are advanced computer applications designed for collecting, storing, manipulating, and displaying data with a geographic or spatial component. This articles focuses on how geography has always been important in the development of scientific thought and how GIS put meaningful authentic work within reach of students without losing the excitement and discovery of science.
